Helen Alata Hiner Thorpe

Helen Alata Hiner Thorpe, 79, passed away November 2, 2012, at her home in Germantown, surrounded by her family. She was a retired safety coordinator with Schering Plough, Inc. Helen loved the Boston Celtics and the Minnesota Vikings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Della Mae Piper Izzett and Charles William and Thelma Shiwsher McCulley. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, John A. Thorpe; her children, Bill Hiner (Carol) of Millington, Bobby Hiner (Becky) of Jonesborough, TN, Tommy Hiner of Altoona, FL, Janet Estey (Vern) of Louisville, KY, David Thorpe (Corienne) of Germantown, Donna Crone (Chris) of Marion, AR and Colleen Goodspeed (Dan) of Memphis; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Wounded Warriers Project or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
