Dorothy Beaty Ellis, age 91, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully and with family on June 18, 2022. Dorothy was born July 5th, 1930, in Memphis, where she attended Fairview Jr. High and Tech High School. She worked in the banking industry, where she met her husband Murray E. Ellis. Before Murray passed in 2008, the pair were married for 54 happy years. Dorothy and Murray were life-long members of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Dorothy had a great love for her friends, family, and the Lord. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and sense of humor.
Dorothy is survived by two children: her son, Mark E. Ellis; her daughter, Patti King, along with Patti’s husband Doug and their children Clayton King and Emilie Clement (Chance Clement); her sister-in-law Ellen Beaty; as well as her nieces and cousins from Texas, California, and Ripley, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband Murray and her brother Colonel Raymond H Beaty and sister Mary Elizabeth Poteete.
The visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar on Tuesday, June 21, from 5:00 until 6:30 PM. The following morning, a private burial service for family will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude or The Alzheimer’s Association.
