Charles M. Simmons, Jr.

Charles Martin Simmons Jr., of Memphis, son of Charles and Ethel Simmons, retired engineer for International Harvester and FedEx, joined his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the age of 90. Charles enjoyed writing poetry and family newsletters which helped his family stay connected. He spent many years tracing family genealogy, loved boating, being outdoors, and building things. He and his wife were active in their church for many years and he also volunteered countless hours mentoring juveniles as a Juvenile Court Probation Officer.

Charles leaves his loving wife of 66 years Peggy Joyce Simmons, four devoted children; Luanne Mohling (Ron), Barbara Carlyle (John), Charles E. Simmons, Cristy Mann (Brian), nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He also leaves three sisters and was preceded in death by two brothers.

Visitation will be from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015, at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange RD, Memphis, TN 38134. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of choice.
