Charles Anthony Ciaramitaro, 85, of Memphis, died November 14, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army who was proud of serving first as a mess sergeant and then in the military police, and his most memorable assignment was guarding President Harry S. Truman in San Francisco during the meetings to form the United Nations. He retired as a meat cutter with Kroger Co. with 43 years of service. Mr. Ciaramitaro was devoted to his family and loved to cook for them. He was a longtime communicant of the Catholic Church of the Resurrection, where he was a Sacristan for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Forever Young Group at Resurrection and the Rosary Makers group at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Virginia Palazola Ciaramitaro and three brothers: Joseph Ciaramitaro, Vincent Ciaramitaro and Tony Ciaramitaro. He is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Wainright and her husband George; a son, Vincent Ciaramitaro and his wife Ann; four grandchildren, Charlie Ciaramitaro and his wife Courtney, Andrea Solomon, Michael Ciaramitaro, Amy Wainright; and four great-grandchildren all of Memphis; three sisters, Rose Gorgia of Memphis, Flora Lucido of Antioch, CA, Mary Grace Osburn of Dallas, TX; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens – Poplar Avenue. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Church of the Resurrection, 5475 Newberry Avenue in Memphis. Entombment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
