Al was born in Crosby, Minnesota on August 26, 1935 to Louise Woolett and Albert D. Hanson. He graduated from Crosby Ironton High School in 1953. He went on to become a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot.
Al was married to Jessie Merle Lewelling on December 18, 1955 for 31 years until her death. He married Evelyn "Ann/Annie" Garrison Burt on April 12, 1992 and they were married 30 years until his death.
He was recruited by Frick-Gallagher MFG as a salesman for government contracts. He then started his own construction company "Hansco, Inc." and worked in the industry until he moved to Memphis, TN and returned to sales. After he retired, he drove a bus for Shelby County Schools for 10 years. He volunteered for Shelby County Sheriff's Department EMS for several years.
Al was a born entertainer. He was proficient on piano and guitar. He also enjoyed traveling, RVing, and competition BBQing. He was actively involved in Masons, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Memphis Gunslingers "single action shooting society" (SASS), a life member of VFW, and a charter member of Redeemer Evangelical Church.
Al is survived by his wife, Ann (Annie) Hanson; his sister, Annie Halberg; his children, Diania Hanson, Bert Hanson (Michelle), Kelli Hanson Morgan (Rusty), Tami Campbell (Mike), and Denny Burt (Andrea); his 13 grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; and his half siblings, Janice, Melody, and George. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie Merle Hanson; his parents, Louise and Albert Hanson; his brother-in-law, Ron Halberg; his half siblings, John and Dory; his step-mother, Dolly; and his lifelong friends, Bill and Charlotte Sunde, Chris Lawrence, Don Farr, John and Gloria Laster, Bettye Jo and Herb Parker, Paul Jones, Tom Bryan, Joe and Marion Bryan, and George Royston.
The visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119 on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 5-7PM.
Services will be held at Redeemer Evangelical Church, 3100 South Houston Levee, Germantown, TN 38119 on August 25, 2022 at 10AM. Dr. Jimmy Latimer, Senior Pastor, and Denny Burt will be officiating.
Burial will be on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10AM at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, TX.
