Beth was born June 3, 1966, in Greenville, Mississippi, to the late Wayne and Margaret Pittman and was baptized at St. Joseph in Greenville. As she grew, Beth remained especially close to her maternal grandmother, Margaret White Evans, who lived close by on Cedar Street. It was here that Beth developed a lifelong love of reading and playing cards with friends—a love that she has passed down to her daughters. The family moved to Clarksdale, Mississippi, where Beth received her 1st Holy Communion at St. Elizabeth, and then to Memphis, Tennessee. In Memphis, Beth attended St. Paul Catholic School before attending Bishop Byrne High School. Beth enjoyed a lifetime of dedicated friends and love from the BBHS family.
Beth met the love of her life, Mark, in 1988 while attending Memphis State University. They were married in 1990 and enjoyed 35+ years together, sharing their love and joy with each other, their friends, their beautiful daughters, their extended family, and, of course, their Memphis Tigers. Beth taught middle school in the Memphis City/Shelby County school system for 25 years. She loved her students and colleagues, and she continued to teach even after her ovarian cancer diagnosis in April 2015.
Beth had a zeal for life. Upon her retirement, she made a concerted effort to maximize time spent with her loved ones. She loved playing games, attending shows at the Orpheum, sharing stories, and working out at CrossFit Memphis with Mark (where she made many new friends). When Beth was required to undergo chemo treatments, she made the most of it, always bringing friends and yummy treats with her to make it as enjoyable as it could be.
Even on the day that the Lord called her home to Him, Beth had spent the day enjoying the companionship of her girlfriends while playing cards and sharing laughs where Beth’s were, no doubt, the biggest! Anyone who has spent even the smallest amount of time with her knows how much her voice could fill a room with joy (her brother, Steven, would complain that Beth embarrassed him at daily mass growing up because she would always sing the loudest! [But she would point out that she won the eighth-grade music award based on this talent!]) But that was Beth--she enjoyed living loud and big, and she will be terribly missed.
Beth leaves behind her husband Mark Hutton of Memphis; her daughters, Lauren Hutton and Meghan Hutton of Memphis, Rachel Hutton Britton (Ryan) of Manila, Philippines, Mallorie Hutton Caradine (Joey) of Nolensville; her uncle Bill Evans; her aunts Dot Reichle, Lois Cruse, and Charlotte Pittman; her sister Mary Margaret Graves (Wayne); her brothers Steven Pittman (Camille) and Stirling Pittman; her grandchildren Emma, Eli, Bruce, and Lucille; and her beloved nieces and nephews.
