Margaret “Joy” Backes was born in Sayer, Oklahoma, on February 26, 1936, to Marvin and Julia Maloney.
In 1953, she journeyed from Mangum, Oklahoma, first to the citrus Groves in Arizona, following her dad‘s brothers, then on to Medford, Oregon. They found work in the orchards around the Rogue Valley and that’s where she met the love of her life, Glenn Backes. She worked at Sacred Heart Hospital before they married in September 1955. They had three children, Glenda Sarratt & husband John, Kevin Backes & wife, Kim and Tracy Backes & wife Candy, three granddaughters, Mandi Thomas & husband Ronnie, Chelsea Aynes & husband Sky and Erica VanAlstine & husband Matt and seven great grandchildren, Richie, Hai’Lee, Preston, Payton, AnnaBella, Gideon, Tallyn and KayLee, and one great-great grandson ZaydN.
Joy worked for Central Point Schools in the cafeterias, the majority, at Crater High School. She loved her coworkers and the students.
Now she’s pain free, dancing in heaven with Jesus, her parents, her siblings, Elmer, Marvin, Linda and Brenda, one great grandson, her love, Glenn, and her son Kevin.
Now she’s praying for us all from heaven.
