I met Daphne and Bob B at a small scientific conference on Whidbey Island, WA in 1993, when I was a graduate student in Bob Paine's lab at UW. Of course, as a budding anemone enthusiast at the time, I knew her name from the literature and her giant reputation. Daphne was extremely kind and supportive to me, mainly in a regular email relationship where she advised me on research technicalities, and introduced me to other anemone people as far away as Malaysia. I am thinking of her now because I'm with my cousins from Kansas and making plans to visit Medford. She was a fabulous scientist and human being and I'm honoured to have known her a little bit.

I was privileged to meet Daphne through the NE Kansas 99s.  She was so encouraging and informative in my early years of flying.   I cherish the time I got to spend with her.  

Few who knew Daphne could forget her.  When you entered a room and heard that laughter you knew she was there.  When she looked at you, her eyes had this intensity of curiosity and interest.  And that enthusiastic (sometimes sarcastic) “Yaaa-ah!” when she agreed (or not so occasionally disagreed) with a comment or idea.  It was a pleasure and a privilege to know her  - indeed,  a special privilege.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob and their family.

I am sorry to hear of Daphne's passing. She led a full and productive life and contributed much in her professional endeavors. She was an energetic and friendly individual whom I am happy to have known through her being your wife. I am grateful that she was able to share the time with you in Oregon. May you be supported and comforted by the thoughts and care of friends in memory of Daphne. It will be a special service for you and your family by the Pacific Ocean for her when you are able to have it. I hope you feel that there will be many others joining you in remembrance of Daphne when you hold that service.

Daphne was energetic, determined and full of ideas as a scientist and as a leader of the ISRS.  When she agreed to do something it was done.  Yet with all of that, she had a fine sense of humor and loved laughter.  My deep condolences to Bob and her family and good wishes that celebrating her life will ease her loss.
