“Present With the Lord”
April 27, 1934 - April 25, 2018
Two days before his 84th birthday, on April 25, 2018 Carlton Francis Griffin went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Carl was born on April 27, 1934 in Burlington, Vermont. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1954. That same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving almost 4 years, Carl followed his family to California. There he met and fell in love with Mary Margaret McFarland. Carl and Mary were married on August 17, 1963. Carl worked for the United States Post Office as a Postal Supervisor for about 30 years. He retired in 1989. After retiring, Carl and Mary enjoyed many years traveling. In 1992, they moved to Pine Mountain Club to live full-time in our family cabin. In 2015, Carl and Mary moved to Phoenix, Oregon to be near their daughter.
Carl was a loving, caring, and supportive husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, brother, and cousin. He demonstrated his unconditional love for his wife during their 54 year marriage. He was a model of how to live a Godly life to his children, grandchildren and many youths in the Awana program at Pine Mountain Christian Community Church. He had a contagious smile and laugh that would light up any room he was in. He was active. During his time at Burlington High School, he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track and was given the nickname Gopher. Carl played in the first Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl in 1954 and scored the only touchdown for Vermont. Later, he bowled on many leagues with co-workers from the post office and played golf at Pine Mountain Club.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Belle (Underwood) and Francis Griffin, and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Mike Biolchino. He is survived by his son, Lloyd Griffin, and his wife, Kim, of Saugus, California, his daughter, Anna Redding, and her husband, Jim, of Phoenix, Oregon and his brother, Melvin Griffin, and his wife, Mary Ann, of Pennsylvania. Carl is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren and two step-grandchildren as well as many extended family members in different areas of California, Vermont and other states.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Asante Hospice and At Home Senior Solutions for the great care and support they have provided to our father and our family. We will forever be thankful. In lieu of flowers, donations can be designated to Asante Hospice through the Asante Foundation, Suite 100, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford OR 97504. Arrangements are being made by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 11th, at Eagle Point National Cemetery Chapel at 2 PM.
Found in Carl’s Bible: July 16, 1960 “to Christ”;
And this poem:
I know that Rock of Ages is secure,
I’ve felt His touch, and He had held my hand,
I know His love and mercies shall endure,
Until I’m home, then I shall understand.
So brighter grows my path as years pass by,
Although it narrows and at times it grows more steep,
And when God calls me to eternal joy,
I hope my friends rejoice and none shall weep.
