Richard was born on August 3, 1953, in Huntington, New York to Bella and Hector Tetrault. Richard attended San Diego City College and Lynchburg University after graduating from high school. He was a journeyman photo-retoucher before embarking on a successful career as a fine artist. He won many awards at art shows and in other competitions, including an award presented by Governor Baliles of Virginia for his drawing of the moon bridge at Maymont, an historic home in Richmond, Virginia. Richard’s work was exhibited at venues including Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center and the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia. In later years Richard returned to school, receiving a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He worked at Computer Science Corporation in Dahlgren, Virginia until his retirement in 2018.
Richard was known for the creative talent he brought to his artwork, music, writing, and programming. He played guitar with the church band at Shady Grove UMC. In retirement, he enjoyed working on a novel and with computer graphics. He was a prolific reader and especially loved all forms of science fiction and fantasy.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Bella and Hector Tetrault, and his brother, Roger Tetrault. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beth, and his son Ben, as well as brothers Leonard, Raymond (Debbie), Alfred (Deb), and Paul (Nancy), and sister-in-law Linda. He also had a host of nieces and nephews with whom he enjoyed spending time whenever possible.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an organization that fights hunger at home and abroad, as this was a cause he felt strongly about.
