John Calvin MARTIN, of Mechanicsville, VA, age 89, died Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his home. John served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, assigned to the 495th Engineering Company. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Japanese Occupation Medal. John was an Iron Worker with Iron Workers Local #28 for many years, working on many projects from buildings to shipyards.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Martin Gabriel (Robert) of Mechanicsville; granddaughter, Kaylee Gabriel of Mechanicsville; grandson, Cody Grubbs of Mechanicsville; and many friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce L. Martin who died November 8, 2005 and sister, Phyllis Bolton.
Visitation for John Calvin Martin will be Monday, August 1, 2016, 2-4:00 pm and 6-8:00 pm at Woody Funeral Home – Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116. Public Graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2016, 3:00 pm at Washington Memorial Park.
