Obituary of James P. Gresch
Jim Gresch, 81, of Mechanicsville VA, went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2011. A native of Milwaukee WI but made his home in Mechanicsville, VA for the last 40 years. Jim was born on June 29, 1929, son of the late Stanley and Agnes Gresch. He leaves his wife Vivian three sons and their wives Jeffrey and Evelyn, Tom and Danease Jay and Merri, and 4 grandchildren; Jeff, Robert, Ashley, and Taylor; sister Irene Phipps; sisters in law, Lorna Visvader, Darlene Martineau, and extended family and friends around the country. With his career in the food business working for A&P Grocery chain, Allied Supermarkets, Vice President of the Meat Division at Richfood and Sales Account Manager at High Grade Meats. Jim retired from both Richfood and High Grade Meats. Jim will be missed by his wife and three sons the most. Jim was an outstanding Father who always cared about and truly loved his family. He loved fishing and golf spending most of his younger years teaching his sons camping and fishing. Work was his life and identity. Jim always spoke kindly of everyone he knew and worked with. The corporate world left little time for the development of hobbies, outside interests, to occupy him during his retirement. Jim stayed as busy as he could and made the best of everything with the love and devotion of his sweetheart and wife Vivian. In business Jim had a strong work ethic, if you want to get ahead you have to work harder than everyone else, treat everyone as you would want to be treated, and help others to be successful. Jim was a loving father and will truly be missed by his family as he was the rock that gave us solid footing in the road of life. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 19, from 6 to 8pm, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville. Services will be held at 11am, on Wednesday, April 20, at the funeral home with interment to follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
