Sue Reese of McGregor died the afternoon of Thursday, August 22, 2013, in Austin at the age of 83. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., August 28th at First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Madison St. McGregor under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Reverend Joe Chamness officiating. Entombment will follow in Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 27th from 6 to 8 P.M. at Cole Funeral Home .
Mrs. Reese was born June 22, 1930, in Brownwood, Texas, the daughter of the late Fred Duncan and Lucile (Dabney) Wright and was a 1947 graduate of Brownwood High School. She continued her education at North Texas State University, Daniel Baker College in Brownwood and received a bachelors of arts degree with a concentration in education from Mary Hardin Baylor College in 1972.
On September 20, 1950, she married Bobby Charles Reese in Brownwood and moved to McGregor in 1955 from Temple. Prior to living in Temple, she lived in Lubbock. She began her teaching career in the Midway Independent School System in 1973 as the first Kindergarten teacher in the district. In 2000, she retired after devoting twenty-seven years to the education profession.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of McGregor where she was a long time member of the Chancel Choir, the Homebuilders Class and later the Friendship Builders Class, the Blanche Turner Circle of the United Methodist Women and served on various committees within the church. She looked forward to the services at Westview Manor Nursing Home each week where she enjoyed singing.
Sue was an active member of the McGregor Community as a member of the Garden Club, The Red Hats, McLennan County Retired Teachers Association and the Woodway Historical Committee. In her spare time, Sue enjoyed spending time with her family, church family, her beloved dachsund, reading and gardening.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, Bob Reese; three sons, Randall M. Reese and wife Kathy of Pflugerville, Stephen Gerald Reese Sr. and wife Sue, Bobby Charles Reese, Jr. and wife Karon all of Temple; two daughters, Donna Ellen Davison and husband Paul of Maryland, Susan Diane Hope and husband Jim of Houston; a brother, Duncan Wright, Jr. and wife Mary of Houston; two sisters, Jane Green and husband Cecil of Hillsboro, Adele Morgan and husband Dan of Colorado City; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
