William (Billy) Amerson entered Heaven’s gates to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 29th, 2023. He was born of parents Clara and Henry Amerson of Stockbridge GA, on October 20th, 1933. Clara and Henry had three children together Billy, Bonnie, and Delano. Billy is survived by his wife Mary of 69 years, son Duane (Diane) Amerson, sister Bonnie (Gene) Corey, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Billy is preceded in death by his son Derwin Amerson and brother Delano Amerson.
Mary and Billy met on a blind date in early 1953 and later were married in December of that same year. They soon built their home in Ellenwood where they raised their two sons Duane and Derby. While living there, Billy and Mary began building their forever home on Jackson Lake. They eventually moved there full time in 1995 where they resided until late 2022. Billy worked hard for over 30 years at Mack Trucks as the best parts man in the business before retiring full time in 1987.
Billy stayed busy after retirement teaching grandchildren how to fish and enjoy the outdoors. If he wasn’t in his garden he was working on something that might not have been worth keeping to most people. He enjoyed his Sunday paper, sitting on the porch with Mary (Nana) watching the hummingbirds, hugging on grandbabies and falling asleep to whatever Nascar race was on.
To know him was to Love him and to love him was a blessing. To say that Billy was a good man wouldn't be enough. If you needed help he was there. If you were his neighbor you were his friend. He was loved by too many to list and will be missed by even more.
A visitation for William will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Haisten Funerals & Cremations, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, Georgia 30253, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
