Mr. Warren Ellis Sims, age 84 of McDonough, Georgia went to his Heavenly home on Friday, November 20, 2020. He was born May 29, 1936 in McDonough, Georgia to the late James Melvin and Bessie Mae Upchurch Sims. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margie Mason and brothers, James and Charles Sims. Warren served his country in the United States National Guard. He married Mary Hooten Sims on April 25, 1958 and was married for 62 years. He was saved at the age of 16 years old in August of 1952. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church for 68 years and served our Savior as church treasurer, Sunday School and Training Union teacher, faithful Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons and a faithful choir director and choir member. He also sang with several Gospel Quartet Groups. Warren loved gardening and growing his own vegetables, especially tomatoes. He sold them to friends and neighbors with whom he loved talking about his gardening. He also loved baseball, the Atlanta Braves, a good western (Gunsmoke) and Gospel Quartets, his favorite being the Cathedrals. He worked for Snapper Power Equipment, Rexall Drugs, Hoffman LaRoche, Squibb Pharmaceuticals and Henry Medical Center until he retired. Survivors include his wife, Mary Sims; son, Wayne Sims, both of McDonough; daughter Debbie (Don) Long of Milledgeville; sister in law, Ellen Sims of McDonough; grandchildren, Amber (Brad) Roberts of Eatonton and Allen Long of Milledgeville; great grandchildren, Blake and Abigail Roberts of Eatonton; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2020 - 11:00 AM at Sharon Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit the family Tuesday from 9:30 am until the hour of service at the church.
