Virginia "Nanny" "Ginner Ann" Sparks McCollum, age 83, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023. She was born on November 4, 1939 in Golden Springs, Alabama to the late Thomas and Devada Grizzard Sparks. She is also preceded in death by her husband, James Harold McCollum, brothers Jerry and Larry Sparks and and her granddaughter, Kadie Cardin. Virginia was a Budget Analyst for over 35 years with the State of Georgia. She had a servants heart and was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Forest Park, GA, active in the Kiwanis Club and other Civic Events in Forest Park. Nanny went to all of her grandchildren's sporting events and was a huge sideline coach. During travel ball, she never missed a game. She was a scout for the team before that was a thing. Virginia loved to fish and travel, visiting all 50 states and Europe. She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Alan) Cardin and Karen (Terry) Scarber both of McDonough; grandchildren: Micah (Kaley) Cardin, Bryce Cardin, Alex (Matt) Garcia and Jacob Scarber; great grandchildren: Mason, Emilia, and Cooper; sisters: Jane Clackum of Conyers, GA, Billie Reeves of Oxford, AL and Gayle Sparks of Oxford, AL, brother-in-law Kenneth (Kay) McCollum of TN, sister-in-law Roberta Sparks of AL, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm - 7:00pm on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Haisten Funerals and Cremations in McDonough, GA. A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 11:00am CST on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Golden Springs Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery in Anniston, Alabama.
