Robert Andrew "Andy" Rainer III

Robert Andrew "Andy" Rainer III, age 75, of Salem, Indiana passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024. Andy was born August 23, 1948 in Cedartown, Georgia to the late Dr. Robert Andrew Rainer, Jr. and Laura Jane Brewster Rainer. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Rainer and Joe Rainer and his little chihuahua, Mimi. He was a classmate of Henry County High School, Class of 1966. For 26 years, Andy walked seventeen miles per day through the City of McDonough delivering mail for the United States Postal Service. He then spent another nineteen years working security at the Jonesboro Courthouse in Clayton County. Andy has been a Mason since 1976 and currently was a member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #87 F&AM. He was a member of the McDonough Presbyterian Church. Andy was always willing to learn something new, such as crocheting gifts for his grandchildren. He was always up for a round of golf and game of pool or darts. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Mary E. "Ellie" Rainer of Salem, Indiana; brother and sisters in law, Fred (Shirley) Rainer of Griffin and Terri Rainer of St. Simons Island; several nieces and nephews; children, Melissa Treu of Florida and Barry Wingler of Indiana; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 - 10:00 am at McDonough City Cemetery in the Rainer Lot. Friends may visit the family Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in memory of Andy.
