Born Laura Lea Cox on July 9, 1960, to Richard and Marie Cox in East Saint Louis, Illinois, she, and her family moved to Georgia in October of that year. She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1978, having studied cosmetology. Her parents and sister, Sarah, predeceased her.
She married Charles Smith, son of Gattis and Reba Smith of Stockbridge, Georgia on September 18, 1993. They all survive her.
Also surviving her are her stepson, Adrian (Ladonna) O'Bright of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and siblings, Nancy (Sam) Helm of Chesapeake, Virginia, Pam (Ricky) Criswell of Grantville, Georgia, Michael (Brenda) Cox of Warm Springs, Georgia, Janet Mobley of Griffin, Georgia, John Cox of Forsyth, Georgia, David (Deanna) Cox of McDonough, and Robin (Billy) Johnson of Forsyth, Georgia. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Alvin (Cheryl) Smith of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Paul (Linda) Smith of McDonough, Georgia, and Gary Darnell of Stockbridge, Georgia
Laura loved crafting, horses, and jewelry. She worked for Walmart for many years at both the Prattville and Wetumpka, Alabama stores. She was not happy unless she was busy and was always eager to get back to work after her numerous illnesses. She will be missed by her friends and co-workers.
A visitation will be held at haisten funeral home for Laura Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 11:00 am until 2:00pm. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 pm.
