Hashun Terrek Johnson, born on March 5, 1973 in Newark, NJ was sent to his eternal home on November 30, 2024, in Atlanta, Ga, due to his battle with T-Cell Lymphoma. He was the beloved Husband of Oraida aka Ya-Ya as he affectionately called her. Rico, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives that were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rico is survived by his loving wife Oraida, and children, Stardashia, Shayla, Mya, Brianna and only son Elijah Johnson. His grandchildren Chloe, Christian and Clarissa. His mother in- law Margarita whom he called “Ma-Ma”, sister in-law Rosa and Brother-in law Fernando. Hashun was preceded in death by his beloved mother Patricia and Grandmother Mary whom he called “Ma”, his grandfather Milton whom he called “Pa”. He also leaves behind cousins and friends who loved him dearly. After his graduation from Miami Beach Senior High, Rico went on to play basketball for FSU. Rico also coached basketball for the North Ward Center in Newark, NJ where he dedicated countless volunteer hours to at risk youth. Rico spread the message of love and hope, and relished in giving sound advice in hopes of making a difference where he could. His dedication to his faith and his desire to bring light to those in need epitomized his joyful and generous nature. Outside of his work, Rico found joy in simply being with his family. He was proud of the family he created, a dedicated father and husband. He was proud of his children and their accomplishments. He loved the community he became apart of. Those who knew Rico will remember him for his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered marking him to be known as the “Gentle Giant”. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
