Charles Cox, 89, of Hampton, Georgia, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough. Born on the family farm in Richlands, NC on January 1, 1932, Charles was the son of Elmer Grayson and Rosabelle Lee Cox. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, two brothers (Elmer Lee Cox and Lewis Cox), and one sister, Christine Cox Baggett Taylor.
He is survived by two sons, Steve (Amanda) of McDonough and Mark (Melissa) of Wilmington, NC, two sisters-in-law (Mary and Nancy), three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and various nieces and nephews.
Charles served the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. An avid mechanic, he retired in 1987 from Ford Motor Company Manufacturing Plant in Hapeville, GA as the superintendent of the body shop. He was a whiz at lawnmower repair and test drove Ford vehicles all over the United States after retirement. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, cutting grass, and cooking for the family. Breakfast was his favorite meal, and he served it immediately with a twinkle in his eye to anyone who was lucky enough to be at the house first thing in the morning.
The family is planning a memorial service for a later date.
