Larry E. Noble, 83, died peacefully at home on December 4, 2023, with his wife of 63 years at his side. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; children Chris (Patricia) Noble, Scott (Kelly) Noble, Todd Noble, Jami (Walter) Kelly, and Kevin (Andrea) Noble; sister, Sandy Hart; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; nephew, Marc; and niece, Judy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Norman Noble; brother, Glenn Noble; daughter, Jean Smith; and son-in-law, Stephen Smith.
Larry, a machinist by trade, took over his family business in 1970 following the sudden death of his father, Norman. Under his leadership, the business transformed from a very small crew of skilled and dedicated machinists into the largest contract manufacturer of implantable medical devices in the United States today. He possessed creative engineering skills and used those skills to develop novel manufacturing processes. In 1980, he collaborated with the Cleveland Clinic to develop a manufacturing process for the first artificial heart. He is also credited with perfecting the manufacturing method that enabled the very first FDA-approved, life-saving coronary stent to be mass produced. The stent has saved hundreds of thousands of lives around the world and has replaced open-heart surgery as the standard of care for the treatment of heart disease.
Larry's adventurous and competitive spirit took him around the world. He enjoyed traveling with friends, fishing, hunting, and any type of automobile racing. He was an avid jet skier, winning the Senior (60+) Jet Ski World Championship in 2000.
