Everyone who crossed paths with our beloved Jill knows that her love, light, smile and spirit were contagious. After an initial battle with cancer in her 20’s she was called to become a nurse. Jill spent her life raising a family, completing her Master’s degree and living life to the fullest. Her passion, her love and her empathy for others shined through her years working as a nurse, cancer research nurse and educator.
The simplest pleasures in life brought her the greatest joys–her husband, her boys, her family and her friends. She was selfless, generous, kind and faithful. She loved the beach, could often be found with a glass of wine in hand and enjoyed her last couple of years relaxing on the patio of her new home in Highland Heights, Ohio. Jill was a warrior and an inspiration as she battled through a second bout of cancer for the last couple years and became involved in a clinical study so others could learn from her. For many years Jill has been involved in the Race for the Place (The Gathering Place), Outrun Ovarian Cancer, The American Brain Tumor Association, and many more. She passed away at home, her hands held, and surrounded by love.
She is survived by her husband, Brian; sons Andrew and Alex; parents Fred and Sandra (nee Bussey) Gartner; sister Alison Gartner Giunta (Mickael Giunta); aunt Linda Tinelli Bergles (John Bergles); cousins Jim, Jennie and Joe Bergles; father and mother in-law Phil and Cindy (nee Jaye) Davis; sister-in-law Stephanie; niece Kiara P. Giunta and nephew Brandon Moses.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 12pm-4pm with service at 4pm, at Dicicco and Sons in Mayfield Hts., Ohio. In lieu of flowers please consider supporting Hospice of the Western Reserve. They were instrumental in Jill’s last weeks of peace and comfort for which her family will be forever grateful.
