Melinda Allen

Melinda Ann (Sanders) Allen, age 66, of Lansing, MI, passed away peacefully at home on March 21st, 2023. Melinda was born on June 16, 1956, in Lansing. She graduated from Lansing Everett High School, class of 1974. She retired from Holt Public Schools after over 30 years of dedicated service.

Melinda was the original “boy mom” to her four sons, and honorary Renfrew Way neighborhood mother to many more. She could always be found at the baseball field in her folding chair, football field blowing her yellow Holt Ram horn, near the wrestling mat, or in the stands at the gym watching basketball at Holt High School. When she wasn’t attending one of the many sporting events, she spent time volunteering as Treasurer for the Holt Football Boosters or drinking a cold glass of RC cola sitting on her deck.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Sandra (Waterman) Sanders, and her brother Stuart Sanders. She is survived by her brother, Albert Mark Sanders (Adrianne), sons; Matthew (Sarah), Keith (Kathleen), Scott (Lauren) and Kevin (Kelsey), and many nieces and nephews.

Melinda’s most cherished role was being a grandmother, where she was fondly and lovingly known as “GiGi” to her grandsons: Logan and Remington, and her granddaughters: Kenzie, Brooklyn, Avery, Breslyn, Emily, Violet, Amelia, and Ellie.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Church of the Resurrection, 1505 E. Michigan Ave. Lansing, MI with visitation from 10:00am until the time of Mass. For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holt Baseball Boosters (c/o Keith Allen, 2055 Washington Road, Holt, MI 48842) in Melinda’s honor and memory.
