Margaret Brown Doolittle, 67, passed away peacefully February 16, 2011 at her home in Mason. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Mason, and was a beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. Margaret was born July 19, 1943 in Mason, the daughter of Nelson and Maxine Brown of Mason. She was a lifelong member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Mason, a retired North Aurelius kindergarten teacher, and a member of the Mason Kiwanis Club.

A skilled writer and editor, Margaret recently completed a multi-volume compilation of her father’s newspaper column “Down By The Sycamore,” which he wrote while editor of the Ingham County News from 1937 to 1961. She was honored on February 9, 2011 by the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce as its Citizen of the Year, and had previously been honored as Teacher of the Year in 2004. She remained active in retirement as a docent at the Pink School in Mason, as a piano teacher, and as a volunteer at Mason schools. She also loved being a grandma and a special aunt, traveling, and spending time with her many cherished friends and beloved beagle Polly.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Kathryn (Douglas) Tamms and Sarah (Andrew) Block; son Peter (Christine) Doolittle; and grandchildren Grace and William Tamms. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Maxine Brown; brothers Richard and James Brown; and sister Caroline Bauer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 21, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church of Mason, 131 East Maple, Mason, MI with the Rev. Bill Pinches officiating. Interment will be in Hawley Cemetery, Mason. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday 2-4 & 6-8 PM; Sunday 3-7 PM; and Monday, one hour prior to the service.
