John E. Schrock, age 77 of Osseo, Michigan, formerly of Mason, Michigan passed away Friday, January 8, 2021. John was born February 24, 1943 to Ervin and Fanny (Miller) Schrock in Elkhart County, Indiana. Early in his life John left the family farm, and the Amish community he had grown up in to venture out on his own. While operating his one man logging business he met Rose E. Miller, marrying her in 1965.
In 1978 they divorced which brought him to Mason, Michigan where he ran the repair shop for Wade Shows. In the early eighties John bought Kingman Engineering in Mason. John spent most of his later years doing what he loved traveling around repairing steam engines. He was a well-respected member of the steam engine community, known for helping pass his knowledge on to others. He was a member of Michigan Steam Engine and Thresher Club, Nation Thresher Association, Michigan Historical Stem Engine Association, Northeastern Indiana Steam and Gas Engine Association, Western Minnesota Steam Threshers, Somerset Steam and Gas Engine Association, and the Rumely Products Collectors. He attended the Freedom Farm Church near his home in Osseo when his travel schedule didn’t have him in another state.John is survived by his son, James Ervin Schrock of Dansville, Michigan; daughter, Laurie Ann Slaughter of Danville, Virginia; grandchildren, Michael Slaughter, Christopher Slaughter, Cordelia Schrock, Rubilynn Schrock; great-grandchild, Aiden Slaughter; sister, Emma McClellan. He is preceded in death by his eight brothers David, Albert, Joseph, Jacob, Noah, Earl, George, and Leo.
A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
