Born April 9, 1963, to Dennis James and Linda Jane Hawkins (Leonard) in Mason, MI passed away December 9, 2024, at the age of 61. Jim was a State of Michigan employee, United States Post Office employee, worked at L & L Shop Rite, owner of Hawks Sporting Goods and was a Veteran of the US Army.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Dennis, Grandparents Howard and Claudine Leonard, and Sylvester and Lepha Hawkins. Jim leaves behind his beloved wife Penny, his mother Linda Hawkins, sister Wendy (Mike) Yoder, son Steven, daughter Jennifer. Stepfather to Jennifer (Ben) Hobbs, Katheryn (Ken) Logsdon, Rebekka Jardine, and Francyne Jardine (Eddie Coulter). Papa Slim Jim to Kenneth Alexandra, Alexander, Damian, Trinity, Angel, Jaelle, Lilly, Skyler, Hailie, Jaxson, Braylon, Nevaeh, Saphyre, Abigail, and Aurora, several aunts and uncles, cousins, great nephews, and niece, and great-great nieces. Jim Loved Ryder and Ruby.
He loved to go to the Cottage with his parents and sister. Later Jim and Penny went to the cottage to enjoy listening to Classic Rock'n Roll on the Bose - while at a campfire, fishing, dancing under the stars, garage sales from Harrison to Gladwin, and Houghton Lake stopping back in Gladwin to enjoy ice cream at the Corner House.
Jim was a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Michigan State Football and Basketball. He loved the times spent with the families at the cottage with bonfires and spending time with out special neighbors, Kay Keelan, Steve Smith, Bill and Janie Sadowski and Dave and Cindy Hamlin.
A celebration of Life will be held at South Lansing Christian Church on 6300 Aurelius Road, Lansing, MI on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11am.
Donations in memory of Jim can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, National Kidney Foundation, or to Penny J. Hawkins to pay for unforeseen expenses.
