Charles "Chuck" Fredrick Gubry, born on April 3, 1940, in Williamston, Michigan, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones and Pastor Kirk, on December 13, 2024 at the age of 84. He was the beloved son of Margaret and Fredrick Gubry and a proud graduate of Williamston High School.
Chuck dedicated 30 years of his professional life as a general supervisor to General Motors (Fisher Body), where he made lasting friendships, and maintained those through the years. Following his retirement, he remained actively engaged with the Fisher Body Retirees group and devoted himself to service at the First Presbyterian Church of Holt. At the church, he contributed as a member of the personnel committee and as an elder member of the session, reflecting his deep commitment to both community and faith.
Chuck found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. A passionate sports fan, he loved cheering for MSU athletics and the Detroit Lions. He especially treasured attending his great-grandson’s baseball and football games. A talented artist with a creative spirit, Chuck designed intricate stained glass pieces that were brought to life through collaboration with Judy. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fishing adventures, including a memorable charter trip to Alaska. Chuck also spent many years showing and judging Scottish Terriers—a pastime that brought him great pride.
In retirement, Chuck and Judy embraced their adventurous spirits by traveling across the country in their RV. Along the way, they formed lasting friendships and created countless memories together. One of Chuck’s favorite places to visit was their cabin on the Platte River—a serene retreat that held a special place in his heart.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his step-son, Michael VanPatten. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Judy VanPatten-Gubry; his children Julie Every (Jeff), Kerry Bilyea, and Nicole Rendon (Anthony); grandchildren Brooke Clark, Joshua Every (Dakota), Benjamin Every, Adam Bilyea, Kirsten Bilyea (Alex), Arika Carruthers (Casey), Breana Herig (Michael), Taylin Rendon (Bailey), Devin Rendon (Cheyanne), and Keeley Rendon; as well as seven cherished great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Chuck’s warmth, creativity, and passion for life left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing and inspire those who carry forward his legacy of love and joy.
The Gubry family would like to extend a special thank you to the many countless friends he has made along his life's journey. They all held a special place in his heart.
A visitation for Chuck will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at FPC-Holt, 2021 N Aurelius Rd, Holt, MI 48842, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM.
