Micheal Gene Mercer was born in Everett, WA on November 12, 1967, and was named after his grandparents’, Gene and Ada Waid’s, 1st born son. The Alaska Native way is to follow our mother’s lineage, and she was wolf/eagle, moiety, killer-whale clan, and flicker-bird house. His native heritage is Tlingit & Heida. Mike passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2015. Mike was happiest being with family and friends, fishing various lakes and rivers and camping around a big bonfire, swapping stories and jokes. Mike also enjoyed spending time with family in Juneau, AK, fishing for salmon and halibut and beachcombing with his grandparents. Mike leaves behind two amazing daughters, Alicia Taylor and Kayli Clark, and best friend, high school sweetheart and former wife Dina. Mike is also survived by his father, Jim Mercer; mother Linda Mercer; brother James Mercer; and sisters Wendy Perry and Katy Waid, as well as lots of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and close friends. Mike left this earth too soon and will be sorely missed at this September’s hunting trip and all family celebrations. The family would like to thank all who were able to attend his Celebration of Life, those who were unable to make it were missed.
From James – A brother who is my best friend. Mike and I understood each other like we were twins. We stood together side by side our whole lives. Mike was the most understanding, forgiving person I will ever have known. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body. I will miss my hunting partner, fishing partner, and best friend.
