Jenny Guffey reunited with the great love of her life Lloyd Guffey. While her husband of 41 years passed away in 1997, memories of their four decade romance and the loving family they created stayed with Jenny until she took her last breath on May 19, 2022. At age 88, Jenny died peacefully at her residence in Marysville, WA.
Born in the small village of Akutan, AK, Jenny was the eldest of eight children. It was on this remote Aleutian island, population 90 in the 1950s, where she met Lloyd Guffey, a fisherman, who she would marry and follow to Whidbey Island, WA. They started a family together in Bellingham, and planted their roots in Edmonds, WA.
A barely 5’ matriarch of a beautiful and boisterous family, Jenny devoted her life to caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an amazing cook and baker; friends were sure to leave her home with a full belly of her famous fried chicken, fish pie, or other tasty meal. She was a talented seamstress, and kept her hands busy creating costumes, hemming pants, or making baby blankets to gift. Jenny enjoyed family gatherings, travel, eating out at her favorite restaurants, and yes, her glass (or few) of wine. She loved socializing, at the Elks Lodge or over a meal with her many friends, where she proudly boasted about her grandkids and their recent accomplishments or milestones. Jenny will be remembered as a strong little lady, with a bright smile, big heart, and a kindness that made strangers feel like family.
Jenny’s legacy lives on in her children Glenn Guffey (Carol), Janelle Simmons (George), Denise Fjortoft and Jenine Elgarico (Nestor); and nine grandchildren Jennifer, Kimberly, Sarah, Annika, Jilleen, Corazon, Deanna, Marissa and Skylor; and nine great-grandchildren EJ, Jaleena, Makoa, Kylie, Nikayla, Nikko, Micah, Anya and Luna; as well as her brothers Wilbur and Gabe. She is preceded in death by parents Anesia and Aleck, siblings Aleck, Anna, Elizabeth, Irene and Tommy; beloved husband Lloyd, granddaughter Kayla and son-in-law Jens.
Friends who wish to honor Jenny are encouraged to make a donation in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org.
