Obituary of Vera Lou Cox Rogers
Vera Lou Cox Rogers, 81, of Collinsville, went to her heavenly home on Friday, November 10, 2017. She was born in Henry County on March 22, 1936 to the late Jesse Cox Sr. and Mary Alice Wright Cox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Cox, Minnie Edmonds and Lucy Hopkins; three brothers, Robert, George and Jesse Cox Jr. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Walter Rogers; her son, Mike Rogers and his wife, Jackie; daughter Jan Rogers; grandchildren, Dr. James Bradley Rogers and Christie Leigh Rogers; sister Hazel Norman; brother, Ervin Cox and his wife Freda; sister-in-law Myrtle Cox; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rogers lived a life of love and modeled the Christian values of her strong faith. She was a wonderful, caring and giving person who cherished her family and friends. Her life’s work was being a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will long be remembered for her great sense of humor and her very friendly personality. During the past three years she provided the absolute best care and love to her husband, who has suffered from a stroke. She was an excellent cook and was well-known for her homemade fudge, mandarin orange cake and pound cake which she made and delivered to many friends on their birthdays, at Christmas, or when they were sick. She always reminded her family that it was better to give than to receive. She was forever visiting shut-ins, praying for people in need, and writing a card to let someone know she was thinking about them. She also enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, and working in her flowers. The Rogers family will be forever grateful for the kind and compassionate care Vera received for many years from Doctor James Isernia, Doctor Jim Muehleck, and all of their staff and office associates. We also deeply appreciate all of the calls, food, well-wishes, visits and prayers extended to us by friends, family and numerous churches during her time of illness. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Stone Memorial Christian Church with Ministers Lawrence Harris and Don Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Stone Memorial Christian Church. In lieu of flowers Vera had requested that her friends consider doing a kind act to someone in need. Those wishing to make a monetary donation may do so to the Traditional Christian Church, P.O. Box 724, Collinsville, VA 24078, Stone Memorial Christian Church, 3030 Virginia Avenue, Collinsville, VA 24078 or to the Martinsville and Henry County American Red Cross, 1081 Spruce St., Martinsville, VA 24112.
