Obituary of Mary P Woody
Mary Virginia Pulliam Woody, 92 of Lawrenceville, GA formerly of Martinsville passed away on Thursday July 18, 2024. Mary was born on Granville Street in Martinsville on July 23, 1931, to John Foster Pulliam, Sr., and Esther Mae Wilson Pulliam. In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her husband James Simmons Woody and her siblings William Brown Pulliam, Adele Mae Pulliam Griffin, Daffin Mamie Pulliam Davis, John Foster Pulliam, Jr., and Thomas Wayne Pulliam. Mary attended Joseph Martin Elementary School and Martinsville High School. During that time, Mary worked at The Rives and Roxy Theaters selling movie tickets and at Woolworth’s. She started work for E.I. DuPont de Nemours on August 1, 1949, and worked there until she retired on May 31, 1991. She also attended classes at Patrick Henry Community College. When growing up, Mary attended Starling Avenue Baptist Church and then joined Wesley Memorial Methodist Church when she married James Simmons Woody on July 2, 1953. Mary and James loved to sing and had fun at whatever they were doing whether it be going to Myrtle Beach or the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mary loved to cook for her family and can vegetables from the garden. She loved country music and Charlie Pride; Kenny Rogers and Conway Twitty could always be heard in the car or the house. She also collected bells and has bells from all over the country. Mary has a heart as big as the ocean. She was always there to help anyone in need and be a shoulder to cry on. Mary is survived by her daughter, Tammy Scott Woody of Lawrenceville, GA, her sister-in-law, Lynda Wyatt Pulliam of Martinsville, many nieces and nephews and her precious furry angel Tuck. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 11:00am at Roselawn Burial Park in the Alcove of Peace. 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, VA 24112 with Chris Bennett officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 824 Starling Avenue, Martinsville, VA 24112 or the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy, Martinsville, VA 24112. McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va. is serving the family.
