Obituary of Lynda W. Pulliam
Our beloved mother, Lynda Carol Wyatt Pulliam, gained her angel wings and flew to meet her Lord and Savior on August 6th, 2024; at her home in Farmingdale. She is now also in the arms of her one true love, Thomas Wayne Pulliam. She is proceeded in death by her husband Thomas W. Pulliam, her mother Ruth Elsie Nelson Wyatt and her father Morton Ishmal Wyatt. Surviving are her brother Charles Kelley Wyatt, his wife Carolyn Hodnett Wyatt, and their two children David Wyatt and Ginny Slack. Lynda and Tommy have two children; Vicky Carol Pulliam and Timothy Wayne Pulliam. The grandchildren are Timothy Alan Robertson II, Olivia Robertson Baylor, Sydney Jordan Pulliam, and Trent Wyatt Pulliam. Lynda was born in Martinsville, VA and attended Martinsville High School where she was homecoming queen, President of the Future Business Leaders of America, Vice President of her senior class, and a member of a number of other of clubs. She graduated in 1958 and was extremely active in planning and executing her high school class reunions. Lynda retired from Martinsville City Schools in September of 2014 as the Clerk of the Martinsville City School Board. She was employed for 55 years as the longest working Martinsville City Employee to date. Lynda worked for seven Martinsville City School superintendents. Lynda Pulliam was known as one of the most loyal and efficient administrative assistants in the state of Virginia. Lynda was a founding and active member of Fuller Memorial Baptist Church in Martinsville. She played the piano for Fuller Memorial since she was 12 years old and was the church historian. Lynda was active in all church activities for her entire life. Lynda worked as a teacher in Sunday school, bible school, and sang in the choir. She loved her Lord and served him daily. Family was of highest importance to Lynda. She was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives and always willing to help with family matters in any way possible. In the last weeks of her life, she talked constantly about how proud of her children and grandchildren she was over the course of her life. Lynda and Tommy were very loving and generous parents and grandparents. Both were patriotic and especially loved hosting Fourth of July picnics among all the other holidays and celebrations of the year. The family referred to her as “Gramma” and to Tommy as “Dodad”. The two of them thoroughly enjoyed retirement together as they collected antiques and Coca-Cola memorabilia. You could find them dining out at many different favorite spots in the Martinsville and Henry County area. Lynda was very proud of the life she and Tommy created for their family. The family will forever be grateful for all the memorable trips and holidays and the priceless stories and advice that were freely given at every dinner table. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Fuller Memorial Baptist Church. The interment will be private.
