Katherine Young Young Heck

Katherine Young Heck, 89, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Spencer, NC, on March 27, 1921 to Hugh Lindsay Young and Lottie Glasgow Young. She was a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Katherine was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of Circle number 2. She was also a member of Thursday Morning Bridge Club. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Wetmore and a brother, Hugh Spencer Young. Katherine is survived by her husband of 68 years, Carroll Heck. They met at a Catawba football game in 1938. They dated all through college and were married on June 4, 1942, two weeks after their graduation. Together they had two children, Joy Cox of Summit NJ and Bill Heck of Fargo ND. Joy Cox and her husband Kevin have two sons, Bradley and Geoffrey Cox. Bill Heck has one son, Keith. He and his wife, Beth, have two daughters Anna and Ava Heck. Her family will always remember her big heart, her southern charm, her great love for her family, and her wonderful sense of humor. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Mateer and assistant Pastor Sarah Whitmore officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Homes, Martinsville Chapel.
