Jesse Daniel “Danny” Adams, Sr., 80, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024. He was born February 17, 1944, the youngest of nine children born to Thomas Clyde Adams, Sr. and Myrtle May Jones Adams.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Primm Adams; son, Jesse Daniel Adams II; siblings, Thomas Clyde Adams Jr.; Dorothy A. ‘Dot’ Mason; James Thomas Adams; Benjamin Robert Adams; Virginia A. Patterson; Frances A. Wheeler; and infant twins.
Danny was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving active duty in Germany as well as across the United States. His military service began as a truck & tank mechanic, but he quickly excelled in marksmanship. He earned many commendations and citations for his marksmanship expertise. Danny advanced in ranks to a sharp shooter instructor, and ended his career training his fellow comrades-in-arms to prepare them for deployment to Vietnam.
After his time served in the military, Danny returned to Snow Creek to make his home. He was employed by E.I. DuPont in the spinning department before retiring after 25 years of service.
The greatest love of Danny’s life was hunting and fishing. Many hours were spent reloading shells, trolling the pond, finding the perfect location for his tree stand, sharing his love of hunting with his family and sighting his rifle for the ‘perfect shot’. Hunting season was often known to lead to epic adventures from the swamps of Florida, to the mountains of Montana, and plenty of wilderness and ‘tall tales’ in between.
Danny is survived by his daughters, Julie L. (Robert) Kitzmiller and Leslie Adams Rakes; grandchildren, Ashley K. (Brad) Dillon, Colton R. Kitzmiller and Hayden L. Kitzmiller; his long-term companion, Judy Hale; numerous nieces and nephews; and other special family members.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 14, 2024 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home and will be officiated by Chaplain Bonnylee Witt. Family and friends are invited to the visitation, which will be held from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service.
