Harry Beverly Byrd III

Harry Beverly Byrd, III, 58, of Penhook, VA, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at VCU Medical Center in Richmond. He was born in Martinsville on July 24, 1953 to the late Harry B. Byrd, Jr. and Katherine Tuggle Byrd. He was a graduate of VCU and also received a certificate in non-profit management from Duke University. He had served as Executive Director of the SPCA, CONTACT and the FREE Foundation. He had also been employed in sales by the former Richardson-Hodges Heating and Air Conditioning. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Morse Byrd of the residence; one sister, Katherine Elizabeth Byrd of Radford, VA; two nieces, Heather Beverly Spiva of Mechanicsville, VA and Katherine Elizabeth Bowen of Greensboro, NC; his mother-in-law, Jean Clark Morse of Martinsville and his special dog, Lucy. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Martinsville with the Rev. John Fulcher officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
