Claribel Ritchie Ogden

Claribel Ritchie Ogden, 96, of Martinsville passed away on January 8, 2019. She was born in Hinton, Virginia on August 4, 1922 to James Edward Ritchie, Sr. and Maggie Embrey Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Newton Ogden; a daughter, Linda Susan Ogden; her sister, Adelaide and brothers; James Ritchie, Jr. and Graydon Ritchie.
Survivors include her daughter Susan Elaine Ogden Greenwood, son-in-law Warren Greenwood, Jr. and a grandson, Parker Greenwood of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Mrs. Ogden was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she served on various committees including the Church Council, Nominations, Pastor/Staff Parish Relations, and Board of Trustees. She was a teacher in the church Kindergarten Class. She also served as Secretary and President of The Lester Thore Sunday School Class. She was also a past member of the Challengers Group of the United Methodist Women and the Young at Heart Group.
She was employed for nine and a half years at Martinsville DuPont Company. She was later employed with the Martinsville City School System and retired from Druid Hills Elementary School with 23 years of service. She served as Treasurer and later as President of the Martinsville-Henry County Food Service Association.
The visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with The Rev. Tim Gearheart officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
