Born on February 2, 1946 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Neoma Aikens.
Richard was the co-owner/operator with his wife Joan of the Spring Mills Econo Lodge from 1982-2009. He enjoyed fish tanks and aquariums, building and operating model trains, and watching the birds. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and made it across the United States. Richard loved spending time with the grandchildren and would often attend little league baseball games.
He was of Pentecostal faith and a member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church.
Richard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joan Canby Aikens; his children: Doug Farmer (Lisa), Wanda Cook, Eric Aikens (Carol), Timothy Aikens (Nikki), Todd Aikens (Jackie), Brian Farmer (Tonya), and Justin Aikens; grandchildren: Tiffany, Jared, Brandi, Robbie, Chelsie, Gary, Tristan, Trinity, Tamzyn, Amber, Jillian, Conrad, Owen, Bryan, and Kyle; and great-grandchildren: Hans, Rowan, Mollie, and Julian.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Claude and Clyde; and great-grandchild, Jaxson.
Family and friends will be received at Rosedale Funeral Home on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Chuck Donivan officiating. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle.
