Katherine Jane Carter, licensed Practical Nurse and longtime resident of Martinsburg, died unexpectedly on December 14, 2020 at Care Haven Nursing Home due to complications from Covid-19 at the age of 83; She was of Methodist faith.
Katherine was a homemaker and housewife most of her life until she decided to go back to school to become a nurse. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed dancing and listening to music (Jazz and Blues). She enjoyed going to bingo and activities with her family.
Katherine was a Past Grand Daughter Ruler of the Grand Temple Elks IBPOE of W. She was a Past State President and was also a member of the 12 of Us Club and the Duke-Ettes.
Katherine was born in Martinsburg on October 12, 1937 to Katie Virginia Rideout and Richard Schley Sr.
She graduated from Ramer Memorial School and attended James Ramsey Vo-Tech to become a LPN. She worked at the VA Medical Center where she eventually retired.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Sandra McMeans (Marvin Hess) of Martinsburg; three sons: Eric (son-in-law Vern Danielson) of Hagerstown Maryland, Michael Lee Carter at home, and James (Jamie) Edward Carter of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two grandchildren: Jenna Mae Carter of Mesa, Arizona and Ronald C. Carter (wife Jane) of Mt. Top Pennsylvania; and three great-grandchildren: Laure, Erica, and Kristen Carter.
Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Carter; and her longtime companion of more than 40 years, Jacob S. Parker.

A viewing will be held at Rosedale Funeral Home on Monday from 9:30am - 10:30am with masks and social distancing required. Graveside services will follow at 11am at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
