Born on August 15, 1944 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Lewis Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Stotler) Vanorsdale.
Joseph joined the United States military in 1962, serving for four years in the Navy. He then took a job with the Schmidt Bakery company, where he devoted the entirety of his career, eventually retiring as a Route Supervisor. He was a long time active member of the American Legion of Martinsburg, the Moose Lodge of Martinsburg, and the V.F.W. of Martinsburg.
Along with his volunteer service to his community, Joseph also enjoyed traveling to new places and meeting new people to chat with; he could always find something to talk about, no matter who had the pleasure of enjoying his company. He found great joy in spending time with his family, his dogs, playing slot machines, as well as traveling for surprise visits with his “Georgia girls.”
Joseph is survived by his children: Joseph (and Bobbi) Vanorsdale Jr, Anthony “Tony” Vanorsdale, and Kelli (and Robert “Bubba”) Kramer; a brother, Richard Lee Vanorsdale; a sister, Delores Ann Talbott; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was also preceded in death by his loving wife of twenty years, Myrtice “Ann” Miller-Vanorsdale; four brothers, and six sisters.
