She was born on July 31st 1929 in Lonaconing, Maryland and was the daughter of the late Alger Lincoln and Leona Rose Bradley.
She graduated from Central High School class of 1947 and attended all most all of her high school class reunions.
Jean graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland, Maryland in 1951. She followed in her older sister’s footsteps, and moved to Martinsburg, WV upon graduation, to begin working as a nurse at the Newton D. Baker Hospital now known as the VA Medical Center.
She thoroughly enjoyed taking care of her patients and often shared fond memories and stories about her nursing career.
She was a dedicated VIP blood donor. In her lifetime, she had donated over 40 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.
Jean was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Golden Rule Chapter No. 69.
She loved bingo, scratch off lottery tickets, sitting on her back porch, vanilla ice cream, and a good book to read. She was a faithful reader of The Martinsburg Journal and always said “the comic section was the best part of the newspaper”. She was always, as she would say, “Fine as Frog Hair”. Jean was known for her quick wit, words of wisdom, and her gentle and kind heart. She was loved dearly by her family and was a joy to be around. In her presence you always felt loved and a sense of calmness. Even as dementia began to creep in, she could still recite the words to her favorite poem word for word; a poem so dear it only seems fitting to write it here, “The wise old owl sat in an oak, the more he saw the less he spoke, the less he spoke the more he heard, why can’t we all be like that bird.”
Jean is survived by her daughter Roberta Lynn Jacobs and husband Gene, and son David Taylor; four grandchildren, Jennifer Fincham and husband Chris, Eric Taylor, Jeremy Taylor and wife Kim, and Ashley Davis; seven great- grandchildren; sister Helen Redick, brother Robert Bradley and wife Paula, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marie and Paul Sowers; cherished niece Connie Frick; and many other special nieces and nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Taylor, son Robert Scott Taylor, brother William Grimes and sister-in law Arlis Grimes, and brother-in-law Tom Redick.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, November 22nd from 4pm-6pm at Rosedale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd at Rosedale Funeral Home at 11am. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church 220 West Martin Street Martinsburg, WV 25401, in memory of Jean B. Taylor.
