BEVERLY KATHARINE HOLDEN
Beverly Katharine Holden, 87, of Lake City, Florida passed away peacefully Wednesday,
July 27, 2022, at Willow Brook Assisted Living Facility, her home for the past 4
years.
Beverly was born June 11, 1935, in Washington D.C. to the late Reverend Frederic Addison Holden, a minister for the United Methodist Church, and Margaret Angeline (Mathews) Holden. Beverly was raised in numerous places in the DC metropolitan area, in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and Baltimore, MD.
Beverly graduated in 1952 from an all-girls high school in Baltimore, MD, and began her college studies at Shepherd College (Shepherd University) in Shepherdstown, WV. She graduated in 1957 with two bachelor of science degrees, and later received a post graduate master’s degree from Miami University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Beverly taught at a few colleges before her 32-year career as Associate Professor at Shepherd College (1966-1998). As well as teaching classes in physical and recreational education, she was the Shepherd College women’s volleyball coach for 11 years. Toward the end of her tenure Beverly served as Dean of the College of Physical Education and Recreation. After her retirement, she moved to Port Charlotte, Florida in 2005 to be near family and enjoy the warm climate.
Growing up, Beverly caught the love of travel from adventures with her parents and this lasted through her whole life as she traveled with friends and family all over the world and throughout the entire United States.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joyce E. (Holden) Hiett (deceased July 2021), and her brother-in-law Verne D. Hiett (deceased March 2022). She is survived by her nephew Brian D. Hiett of Martinsburg, WV, and her niece Amy H. Hiett of Inwood, WV, and cousins in Ashville and Charlotte, NC as well as Florida. She is also survived by many close loving friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Rosedale
Cemetery Chapel, 917 Cemetery Road, Martinsburg, WV [304-263-4922] with Michael
Crowther officiating. Casual attire is welcomed.
Following the service interment will be at the Rosedale Cemetery where Beverly will rest next to her parents, Frederic and Margaret Holden.
