Mr. Norman Irvin Shapiro, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born in Augusta, Georgia to the late Harry and Helen Shapiro. Mr. Shapiro was CEO and President of Shapiro Packing Co. He was a proud member of Adas Yeshurun Synagogue serving as President in the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s. Mr. Shapiro also served as President for the Federation of Jewish Charities. Mr. Shapiro was very charitable man; he created the Norman Shapiro Charitable Remainder Trust. He enjoyed exercising daily at the Wilson Family YMCA. Mr. Shapiro will be missed by his many friends.
Mr. Shapiro is preceded in death by his son, Julius Shapiro and his brother, Sam Shapiro.
Left to cherish his memory is his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Shirley; son, Michael (Derindia) Shapiro of Augusta, GA; daughter, Rachel (Peter) Cowley of Cumming, GA; 7 grandchildren, Rebecca (Jonathan) Pearlson of Coral Springs, FL; Manny Shapiro of Jacksonville, FL; Elizabeth Shapiro of New York City; Josh Shapiro of Augusta, GA; Lee Shapiro of Augusta, GA; Erica (Andy) McKinny of Cumming, GA; and Montana (Ethan) Kennedy of Cumming, GA; 3 great-grandchildren, Judah, Levi and Eva Pearlson of Coral Springs, FL; and a host of family and close friends.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm, Sunday, December 19 at Magnolia Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi David Sirull. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Adas Yeshurun Synagogue at 935 Johns Rd., Augusta, GA 30904.
Pallbearers will be Mike Shapiro, Josh Shapiro, Lee Shapiro, Joel Shapiro, Louis Shapiro, Harry Shapiro, Michael Dobbs and Steven Liebowitz.
Honorary Pallbearers: Abram Serotta, Manny Shapiro, Jonathan Pearlson, Michael Teplitsky, Malcolm Estroff, Sanford Karesh, Bernie Silverstein, Steven Fishman and Jay Wilkerson.
