Billy H Slagle

Mr. Billy H Slagle, of Evans, GA, entered into rest at his residence July 29, 2011.

Billy was born December 19, 1920 in Big Stone Gap, VA. He served in the US Navy during WWII, was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America and Trinity Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Bonnie A. Slagle, of Big Stone Gap, VA; daughter, Debra S. May of Harlem, GA; and grandson, Bobby Vintson of Evans, GA.

Mr. Slagle is survived by his precious wife of 70 years, Margaret L. Slagle of Evans, GA, two sons, Jim (Patricia) Slagle of Evans and Rick (Tracy) Slagle of Appling; four daughters, Kay (Bob) Vintson and Ellie (Delbert) Scott of Evans, Judy (Gary) McFerrin of Martinez, Billie (Frank) Whitmire of Bowman, GA; son-in-law, Charlie (Ann) May of Appling; three sisters and one brother, Mary R. Kiser and Sue S. Burk, both of Martinez, Nell S. Cooper of Clintwood, VA. and John Slagle of East Stone Gap, VA. Mr. Slagle was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. He was blessed with eighteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 6 – 9 PM, Monday at Elliott and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 02, 2011 at Trinity Baptist Church, 4594 Columbia Rd, Martinez, GA. with Rev. Rick Slagle and Dr. Bobby Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at Belleview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Greg, Brent, Jon, Will and Evan Slagle, John and Pat Strickland, Gary McFerrin, Jr., Keith Whitmire, Dan and Matt May, Steve Lane and Dennis May.
