Alice Elaine Kmiecik passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. Elaine was born on June 1, 1941, in Westerville, Ohio. She is the daughter of the late Nelson and Thelma Sands. Her mother passed away when she was very young. Her father remarried to Violet Mae Smothers, who Elaine remembered fondly as her mother.
Elaine lived on a farm most of her childhood in Gahanna, OH. She moved to Florida in high school. She was active in church youth activities and became President of the Baptist Youth Organization. She was a member of FHA in high school. After graduation, Elaine enlisted in the Marines. This is where she met the love of her life, Steve, a fellow Marine. After they were married, Elaine was discharged from the military. She embraced the Marine lifestyle of moving from place to place and made many lasting friends along the way. She returned to work when their children were older and became a Civil Service employee. She was a long time member of the Women Marine Association. She loved putting together puzzles, doing word-solving games and most of all playing bingo. She was a great storyteller and always found a way to start a conversation.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen, Jr.; sons Stephen, III (Karen), Johnathon (Kathy), and Frederick (Pam); stepsister Mildred “Sunshine” Key; eight wonderful grandchildren who loved their grandmother very much; Ryan, Kimberly, Craig, Jason, Travis, Christopher, Kylea and Rachel Kmiecik; and one great-grandchild; Ryder Kmiecik-Menard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Stand Up To Cancer in her memory.
A Memorial Service for Elaine will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Chapel, 4255 Columbia Rd., Martinez, GA.
