Ronal Joseph Serpas, age 85, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2024, in Gretna, LA. Born on June 5, 1939, in New Orleans, LA, Ronal's life was a testament to service, dedication, and generosity, inspiring all who knew him.
Ronal, affectionately known as "Big Ronnie" and "Ron-Boy" to his family and friends, graduated from John McDonogh High School in New Orleans before serving honorably in the United States Air Force.
Upon completing his military service, Ronal returned to New Orleans and joined the New Orleans Police Department. Ronal’s direct family, before and after his police career, continue to provide more than 80 years of service to the New Orleans Police Department. Ronal retired as a police officer in 1981. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Crescent City Lodge #2 and remained a member until his passing, leaving a legacy of bravery and commitment to the people of New Orleans.
After his distinguished career in law enforcement, Ronal continued to serve the public by working for the Louisiana Department of Revenue, from which he also retired.
Ronal was a gracious and generous man, always willing to help those in need. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Nicolich Serpas; his sister, Maryanne Serpas; his sons, Ronal W (Marjorie Jill) Serpas, Richard J (Linda) Serpas, Russell W (Patricia) Serpas, and Brad (Jasmine) Landry; and his cherished grandchildren, Dustin C. Serpas, Amanda E. Serpas Ward, Alexandra J. Serpas Schlacter, Chelsea Serpas Opfer, Lindsey Serpas, 7 great-grandchildren, and his loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Paul A. Serpas, Sr., Elizabeth S. Serpas, his brother, Paul A. Serpas Jr., and his nephew Adam R. Woodruff.
Ronal's life will be joyfully celebrated on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, with a visitation from 9 AM to 1 PM, followed immediately by a funeral service. Both events will be held at Westside/Leitz-Egan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA 70072.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and to honor the life of a man who touched many hearts with his kindness and generosity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnels to Towers, reflecting Ronal's lifelong commitment to service and community.
May Ronal rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of God and reunited with those who have gone before him.
