After completing elementary school in Diamond, Miriam graduated from St. Mary's Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana. She furthered her education by attending Roxbury Massachusetts Community College and earning her Associate degree. Always eager to learn, Miriam attended Boston University majoring in Sociology. She completed the requirements for and received her B.S. degree in Sociology from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Miriam truly led a life of service. Her commitment to the poor and needy people that she worked with was unparalleled. As a probation office, counselor, coordinator and social worker, she fought tirelessly to improve the quality of life for all whose lives she touched. Always an advocate for the underprivileged, she believed that her desire to assist was her faith in action and could help to change people's lives for the better.
Miriam found her volunteer work as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of the Lake and Baton Rouge General Hospitals especially rewarding and fulfilling. In the true spirit of the Beatitudes, Miriam brought great comfort to the sick and suffering and their families. It is our hope that she will always be blessed with the joy that she gave to so many others.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister Sharon Villars, her brother Collins Bartholomew, and twelve nieces and nephews.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Lazard Barthelemy, her twin Genevieve Shilling, her sisters Annette Landry and Elvina Kolstad, and her brothers Benny Bartholomew and Manuel C. Bartholomew.
