Joseph "Papa Joe" Schaffer,75 died October 5,2012, with his family by his side in Marrero,LA. He was born May 14,1937 in New Orleans,LA to John W. and Hazel Schaffer. He had five loving siblings John Schaffer, Elenora Coleman, Ethel Sauerwin, Hazel Miller, and Vadia Geeck. He had a wonderful life with his wife Lynn for 49 years. He never had children of his own, but was blessed with a nephew, Harry Miller and three nieces, Christine H. Ruiz(Charles),Robin H. Tarleton (Jimmy) and Lacie H. Lannes (David). He loved them as if they were his children. He also had 13 great-nephews and nieces that he called his grandchildren, Lindsey, Billy, Chuckie, Catherine, Juliette, Alex, Taylor, Hailee, Gracie, Evan, Cameron and Colleen. He served in the National Guard and Reserves of the United States for 4 years. He worked as a long-shoreman for over 20 years and then owned his own business, Ault-Man Janitorial for many years. He was a huge fan of the Saints, liked the horse racing track and playing cards. Over the years he had many dogs, birds, fish and an iguana. Words cannot describe how much we all loved and will miss him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 13,2012 at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home.
