Mary Ann Roberts, 85, of Marlin passed away at home surrounded by her family on February 25, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marlin with Rev. Greg McLaughlin officiating. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery will immediately follow. The family will receive visitors at Adams Funeral Home Tuesday, February 28th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Mary Ann was born April 5, 1937, in the community of Taylor’s Chapel, just east of Marlin, to Joe and Anna Tepe Benke. She attended primary school at Taylor’s Chapel and high school in Marlin, where she graduated in 1953. After high school Mary Ann worked at Nash Robinson Lumber Co in Marlin, then went to work in the Falls County Clerk’s office as a deputy clerk. She soon began working for Robert Carter at Falls County Abstract where she worked for many years until her retirement.
While working in the county clerk’s office she met her future husband, Billy Roberts. They were married on April 7, 1957, and were married for almost 62 years, until Billy passed away after a lengthy illness. Mary Ann was a devoted wife and caregiver to Billy during his illness and demonstrated in her quiet, selfless way, what true love is. She truly was a shining example of a Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was patient, kind, thoughtful and generous.
Mary Ann enjoyed family get-togethers to celebrate birthdays and holidays and loved spending time with her cherished grandchildren, with whom she took many trips to Galveston, Six Flags Holiday in the Park and Glen Rose. After retirement she enjoyed taking road trips and especially loved the Grand Tetons and the mountains of Colorado.
Mary Ann was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marlin where she was involved in the Parish Council of Catholic Women, the Altar Society and the Rosary Society. She was also a religious education teacher for many years.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Billy; her parents, Joe and Anna Tepe Benke; sisters Rosalie Kroll, Clara Powers, Dorothea Kunkel and Anna Glockzin and brother Clarence Benke.
She is survived by her five children, Patricia Dingrando and husband Frankie; Eddie Roberts; Nelson Roberts and wife Gina; Barbara Sharp and husband Steve; and Mike Roberts and wife Jennifer. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lindsy Baize and husband Verlon; Mandy Shelton and husband Scott; Stephanie Thurman and husband Brent; Aaron Roberts; Mattie Duvall and fiancé Justin Armour; Alli Roberts; Wesley Sharp; Jeffrey Sharp and wife Mikaila; Amanda Neumann; and Daisy Metcalf and husband Brad. Great-grandchildren are Caisley Craig and husband Jett; Cortney Goeke; Addison Shelton; Aislin Shelton; Harvey Thurman; Peyton Hensley; Abigail Metcalf and Clayton Metcalf.
She is also survived by a sister-in-law, June Salsberry of Harker Heights, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. David Fedro and his staff, the staff at Standards Home Health and Accent Care Hospice for their compassion care of Meemaw.
Pallbearers will be: Aaron Roberts, Scott Shelton, Brent Thurman, Peyton Hensley, Brad Metcalf, Clayton Metcalf and Verlon Baize.
