Bud was born on June 22, 1937, in Moselle, Mississippi to Oswald and Sadie Holcombe. He was the youngest of six rowdy and handsome brothers, Ray Herrington, Randall, Chuck, Rudy, and Max Holcombe and two sweet sisters, Katherine Mosley and Johnnie Speed.
Bud spent his childhood years and attended school in Moselle, MS before the family moved to Houston, TX where he attended high school. He then served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1957 where he received an Honorable Service discharge. He moved back to Houston where he met his sweetheart, Carolyn Adams, who was attending business school. The couple married on November 1, 1958, at her parent’s house in Chilton, TX. They soon welcomed two children, Mark and Terrie, and the family lived in Houston for several years before moving back to Chilton. Bud aspired to build a home and own land. After all, he was a country boy at heart!
Bud was a machinist for most of his career including working at Hercules, Inc. in McGregor, TX. He served in the Army National Guard for several years. He later managed Falls on the Brazos Park in Marlin, TX. Upon retirement, Bud and Carolyn traveled, enjoyed membership at Marlin Country Club and spent time with family and friends. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before she passed away suddenly in 2015.
Bud was loved by so many, and he loved them equally! He was blessed to have many great friends and family members and enjoyed his time with them. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes, hang out with friends, watch football, win big at the casino, golf, fish, BBQ and watch Fox News (ha ha).
Bud is survived by his son, Mark of Waco, TX, daughter and son-in-law, Terrie and Jerry Peterson of Frisco, TX, brother, Max Holcombe of Houston, brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Sandra Chandler of Chilton and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church Chilton. Bud’s beloved nephew, Joel Chandler, will be officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Micah Chandler, Kyle Chandler , Ashton Chandler, Carter Chandler and Brent Holcombe.
All are invited for a Reception Luncheon immediately following the service at the Church Annex.

This obituary was written by Terrie Peterson and Mark Holcombe, in honor of our loving, fun, and supportive Father. It is our tribute to his memory and the lives he touched with his love, friendship, and laughter. He will be remembered and missed by many but will live on in our hearts. He is with our Mom now and that gives us great comfort. Rest in peace, Daddy.
