Emma Lou Harris Davis

Emma Harris Davis, age 86, of Rutherfordton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, March 30th at the Hospice House in Forest City. She was born on April 28, 1926 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of George R. Harris and Ola Ledford Harris.

She resided in Montford Cove Community until later years when she moved to Carolina House in Forest City. She attended school in McDowell County and obtained her high school diploma from Isothermal Community College at the age of 63, along with her aunt, Nora Harris, who was at the age of 75.

She was a member of Montford Cove Baptist Church. She retired from Burlington Industries. She loved to cook, garden and can fresh vegetables. She also loved to travel.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert R. Davis; her daughter, Melissa Davis; and brothers, Clarence A. Harris and James R. Harris.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Debie McGaha and her husband, Joe of Rutherfordton, Carolyn Parker and her husband, Floyd of Old Fort, and Brenda Kayga and her husband, John of Morganton; six grandchildren, Dara Sprouse and husband, Warren of Rutherfordton, Ashley Morgan of Forest City, Brooke Norris of Rutherfordton, Brandi Rowe and husband, Brian of Fletcher, Greg Parker and wife, Becky of Marion, and Courtney Walker and husband, Charlie of Morganton; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Nellene Ledbetter of Sevierville, TN.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Montford Cove Baptist Church with the Reverend Jerry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, April 1, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion.
